What to expect

Here's how it goes.

Bring the computer in and we start with the flat $60 diagnostic to find out why it won't boot, keeps crashing, or just needs a clean start — and that $60 comes off the bill if you go ahead with the work. When a fresh install really is the answer, we copy your files off first whenever the drive is healthy enough to read, reinstall Windows or macOS clean, then put your updates and drivers back so it's ready to use the moment you pick it up. Most of this is done in a day or two, and we'll always tell you honestly if your files are at risk before we touch anything.

Common questions

Common windows & mac setup questions

Will I lose my photos and files if you reinstall Windows?

A clean reinstall does erase the drive, so before we ever do one we copy your important files off first — photos, documents, the things that matter — whenever the drive is healthy enough to read. We can't promise every file every time, especially if the drive itself is failing, so we'll be straight with you about the risk before any work starts. If your files are the main worry, say so up front and we'll treat saving them as the first job.

My computer is stuck on a blue screen and won't load — do you have to wipe it?

Not always. Plenty of boot errors and crashes can be repaired without erasing anything, and a full reinstall is the last resort, not the first move. The $60 diagnostic is how we find out which it is — sometimes it's a quick fix, sometimes the system genuinely needs a clean start. Either way we'll explain it in plain English and let you decide, and this goes for both Windows and Mac.

Do I need to buy a copy of Windows, and will it still be activated afterward?

Most computers made in the last several years have their Windows license built into the machine, so it reactivates on its own after a clean install at no extra cost. If yours is older and needs a license, or you want to move up to a newer version, we'll tell you exactly what that costs before we do anything. Nothing gets quietly tacked onto your bill.

After a fresh install, will my programs and printer be set back up too?

You'll get it back with the operating system clean, all the Windows or Mac updates installed, and the drivers in place so the screen, Wi-Fi, and sound work right out of the gate. A clean install starts fresh, though, so your own programs — things like Office, QuickBooks, or your games — get reinstalled after, and you'll want your logins and passwords handy. Tell us about a printer or anything specific and we'll get it connected before you leave.

Should I move up to Windows 11, or stay on the version I have?

We'll give you a straight answer based on your actual computer. Windows 10 stopped getting security updates back in late 2025, so for a lot of folks moving to Windows 11 is worth it — but only some machines are built to run it well, and we won't push an upgrade that just makes an older computer crawl. We'll check whether yours can handle it and tell you honestly whether to upgrade, stay put, or start thinking about a different machine.

Whatever broke, we’ve probably seen it. Let’s take a look.

We don’t price repairs over the phone — we look first, so the number’s real. The $60 to look comes right off your repair, and walk-ins are always welcome. Look for the blue door with the stairs on the left side of the parking lot — knock if it’s locked, we’re here.
